As the pandemic has been ravaging the world at lightening speed, I have been sitting here in my studio trying to make my small contribution to the community effort to protect those who are most vulnerable (prisoners, residents at homeless shelters, firefighters, indigenous populations, etc). I do not know how to sew, but I have been cutting lots and lots of material for those who are making masks for these groups. I have been gathering fabric left over from projects of both friends and strangers in the community and cutting it to the right size for weeks now. I have become enamored with the beautiful fabrics and the way it paints a kind of picture of my community. I wanted to make a project about this effort to protect.
Each person who joins this project will expand the net of protection that will sustain the art world that we love. There will be 51 generations of this drawing, starting from the first which is a very modest 7,62 cm x 7,62 cm, expanding to a final 76,2 cm x 76,2 cm in as the 51st person joins in. Each person who joins is documented within the next generation of the drawing. Through this drawing, a community of protection will form.
